Ryan Mackin named his label after a return. A literal one. Back2Jax Productions, the independent record label he founded in 2025, takes its name from a trip back to Jacksonville, Florida, the city where his creative life found its footing again after years spent working in different industries across different places.
That return, and the decision that followed it, defines what Back2Jax Productions is. The company, registered as an LLC, describes itself as built around artist ownership. At the center of it is Mackin himself: a Rhode Island-born hip-hop artist who, according to the company, handles his own recording, promotion, and creative direction. For an independent artist working without outside infrastructure, artist ownership means controlling not just what gets made but how it reaches people and who benefits from it.
The services listed on the site include artist development, music marketing, music video editing, and cover art design. Mackin built them into the operation from the start, which says something about his understanding of what self-reliance actually requires.
Before the Label
Mackin was born in Westerly, Rhode Island, and graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in Florida after relocating there at sixteen. Marquis Who’s Who, the biographical reference directory that selected Mackin for inclusion in December 2025, cited childhood instability and family separation as defining features of his early life. Music arrived during that period. First poetry, then rap written and recorded informally with friends. Not a career plan yet, just something he needed.
The professional years that followed were long and varied. From 2014 to 2016, he worked as an apprentice electrician at Bell Reeves Plumbing, Electric and Air Conditioning. He managed Yulee Extreme Car Wash from 2017 to 2018. He spent years in sales, including a position as sales manager at Dreams2Reality Entertainment from 2019 to 2025 and a period as a sales associate at All Star Elite in 2023. He also carried fashion modeling credits with Dreams2Reality Entertainment from 2023 to 2025 and with Industry Direct Models from 2024 to 2025. These facts come from the Marquis Who’s Who profile.
Sales teaches how to articulate value and build working relationships. Modeling requires camera presence and composure on demand. The trades operate on a different principle entirely: showing up regardless of conditions, because the work doesn’t wait. None of it looks like a direct path to running a record label, but the skills transfer in ways that aren’t obvious until they matter.
A Return That Changed Things
Before Back2Jax Productions, Mackin had been performing as a hip-hop artist through Ryan Mackin Records from 2024 to 2025. According to the Marquis Who’s Who profile, that period included a performance at Webster Hall in New York City.
Then came the return to Jacksonville. The label followed.
“It’s Possible,” released in December 2024, sits near the center of what Back2Jax Productions stands for musically. The track addresses the idea that people who have been written off can still build something real. December 2025 brought harder circumstances. Mackin’s mother Jennifer died on December 26, the day after Christmas. He responded with a song. “I’m So Empty,” written after her passing, is available on the Ryan Mackin music page and on YouTube. Both tracks carry the same orientation: music written through actual experience rather than around it.
Running Everything Himself
As CEO and owner, Mackin carries the full weight of Back2Jax Productions, the artistic decisions, the marketing, the relationship-building, the long-term direction. That is the cost of independence. The company’s site notes that he is open to major label partnerships when they align with his vision, but is not waiting on one to move.
According to the Marquis Who’s Who profile, much of Mackin’s motivation ties directly to his daughter. She is the primary inspiration he cites for what he builds and why he keeps building it.
Marquis Who’s Who, in selecting Mackin for its December 2025 edition, also noted his networking ability and work building professional relationships within the music industry as central to his approach.
Coming soon on the site is something called the Foundation Series. Official merchandise, tee shirts and long sleeves, is already listed.
The current catalog runs 16 tracks, among them “Street Prayers,” “Never Stopping,” “No Breaks,” and “The City.” The music reflects a consistent sensibility: grounded in where it came from, written by someone who has been working his way back to it for a long time.
